Giving Helpful Feedback

Clear feedback helps the project move faster and leads to better results. You don’t need to speak in design terms—just explain what you’re reacting to and why.

There’s no such thing as “wrong” feedback. Some types are simply more actionable than others.

What’s Most Helpful

The most helpful feedback includes:

  • What you’re responding to
  • How it feels or functions for you
  • What you’d like to be different

This doesn’t need to be long or technical.

Examples

”I don’t like it.”

“It feels too formal for our audience.”

”Can you make it pop?”

“Can the headline stand out more from the rest of the page?”

”This feels off.”

“This section feels heavy compared to the rest of the page.”

Taste vs. Function

Both matter—but they’re different.

  • Taste is about preference (style, tone, visual feel)
  • Function is about clarity and goals (understanding, action, usability)

If you’re unsure which it is, that’s okay. Just say what you’re noticing.

What Slows Things Down

  • Vague reactions without context
  • Conflicting feedback from multiple people
  • Redesigning instead of refining

If feedback needs clarification, I’ll ask.

One Last Note

You don’t need to solve anything—just react honestly. I’ll translate your feedback into clear next steps and guide the work forward.
